UNIT 1 / TRENDS: THE INTERNET AND ITS EXCESSIVE USE

The excessive use of digital platforms and the constant tension caused for its use and connectivity has created a kind of technological addiction that goes beyond the average user. The Internet and everything it covers, as network of networks is unlimited, so that the exposure to all those resources goes hand in hand to the development of habits that do not allow users to develop an adequate use of the available components, and therefore it can be said that the addiction is a fact and is already the subject of studies by professionals who study other types of actions and uncontrolled behaviors.

The Internet and its excessive use can be compared to drinking too much alcohol, as well as smoking and consuming substances that impair mental and physical health. It is quite interesting to understand that the levels of sophistication that communication channels have reached throughout the world have elicited those conditions worldwide, affecting almost everybody. Our civilization has been able to develop tools of communication so advanced that it is practically impossible to make comparisons with the ones we possessed just a few years ago. The Digital Age, with the Internet and mobile telephony, has revolutionized the world as a whole, but it has also created circumstances that create problems among users who do not possess the skills to manage such technology. The constant desire to be updated and connected to digital media has developed in the users of almost all ages the feeling of not being able to live without it.
